That's how he rolls

My husband is a coupon pro. No joke. Sometimes I tell people that my husband does all the grocery shopping and they think I'm kidding. I'm not. This works out well for me since I have two young children I would have to tote through the store and because I hate grocery shopping in general.
Back to the coupons...I told him he should teach the relief society in our church about his tactics. He saves us TONS of money. He is so good at using the coupons that a lot of times he gets food for pennies and sometimes even free. Here he is cutting out his coupons:

This is our food storage in our basement. We have so much food down there now that I call it my little store. If I'm running low on ingredients I go shopping downstairs. It's really nice to have. Although at first I was skeptical. And I have to say that I think sometimes Eric is somewhat addicted to buying all the food. It's like a game for him to see how to get the best deals. But hey, it's not a dangerous addiction, and we're following the prophet's counsel of having food storage right! (: I just see all that food and panic about how I can use it all up so none goes to waste. I also think of so many people who have so little and I want share. Eric has talked about taking excess food to the nearby food banks, which makes me happy. He comes home every day with groceries to make sure we are fully stocked.

The kids love to help put items away. Once in a while they will make a game of it too.

We tell them to be careful with the things we have down there. Bianca can be dramatic and decided to treat the items like little babies. Here she is cuddling a baby barbecue sauce. Oh dear.

Like Father, like son......

Eric really does so much for our family and for me as a wife and Mother. I am so grateful to have such a resourceful husband. Thanks for all you do Rico, and for taking such good care of us, we love you!

Somebody stop him!

Eric came home with this the other day and asked how much I thought he spent. Which wouldn't be a problem except that he has been doing this for almost two weeks straight now, EVERY DAY! No thanks to Jessica Erskine, who introduced him to the coupon sites! After a few days of this I told him he had to stop. He said he would, that he knew he was getting to the point of buying things we didn't need just to get a good deal. But today he came home with more. Oh dear. Anyway for these items he spent $3.00. Which is a really awesome deal if you want to eat macaroni and cheese for days on end. He mostly got it for the capri suns. So yeah 3 dollars spent and 37 dollars saved. I'll give a link to the coupon websites with a small disclaimer, "may cause you to purchase excessive amounts of food."

Ketchup

Oh, we have had a lot going on lately but it's all good. So I'm posting this to catch you up on the last month or so. (:
Eric found these new shelves for our food storage at Sam's Club. We are trying to be more diligent at keeping the shelves stocked and rotating the food. Eric and I and the kids went through all the items and counted and labeled them for FHE. It's so much easier to see everything with these new shelves, I love it. The kids enjoyed helping and counting too. Wyatt is getting pretty good with his numbers, he can now count to 20.

We decided since Wyatt drinks so much apple juice to put those bottles to good use. Bianca likes to help Eric put rice into them.

A few weeks ago we went to the yearly Coney Island event that Cincinnati Children's Hospital gives tickets to. Bianca had been talking about it since the last time we went. She was so excited to go. It's like a carnival that never leaves. They have cute kids rides and I guess a little water park, but we've never been to that. Here she is with Matty and Alessia, some of her good friends. Getting ready for the paddle boats.

This picture looks familiar from last year. Matty and Bonk in the helicopters.

We got to the park early so the kids went on some rides by themselves. Wyatt went on the rocket first, doesn't he look so happy? (that was meant to be sarcastic)

Another friend of ours invited us to go to Hueston Woods this month. It's near a lake and has a playground. It has a beachy feel to it. The kids and I had a lot of fun. It was beautiful.

Wyatt has been....as usual, playing with balloons. His new thing is to find ribbons and have me cut them off one balloon and put them on another and he carries them all around the house. Seriously, the boy is a little bit obsessed.

And my sister and her kiddies came out to visit. Here is Bonk and Scarlett, kickin it on the couch.

My sis and Scarlett in the back yard.

Isaiah and Bianca eating sugar cookies that they decorated. Maybe I should mention something in this picture. Our house has kind of been clothing optional lately. Bianca towards the end of the summer has only been wearing underwear around the house. She loves to just wear underwear to bed too, but the weather has been cooling down quickly so she is gonna have to start wearing some clothes. The girl is so funny. The minute I pick her up from school, I'm talking about in the car, she takes off all of her clothes.

Staci and Ada on the computer. Now I see why Staci is never on facebook> (:

And Scarlett with her lovely locks. She is getting so big!

And last but not least, the hub. He is such a stud. In this picture he was just home from church after his many meetings and he decided he would make me dinner. He is learning to be a multi tasker. He was on the phone making more appointments to visit people while cooking. He's a great husband and daddy and I feel so blessed to be his wife. Thanks for all you do Rico! And that my friends is the Ketchup.

Gone Daddy Gone

Eric has been in DC since Saturday for his yearly medical conference so I've been trying to make the days go by as quickly as possible so the kids don't miss him too much and so it seems like he wasn't gone too long. I've been doing a lot of activities that I normally wouldn't do, for example: sugar cookies.... I took the easy road with the dough and just bought that Betty Crocker mix and then added a little extra flour, patted down the dough with my hand and made shapes. Thank you Betty! It was actually fun to do, Bianca loved it too. She said "Mommy, this is like playing playdoh but you can eat this kind." And of course when I got out the food coloring she went crazy and had to make every color frosting, including the colors that result from mixing other colors together.
Bianca is very hard on herself, she started to frost and then asked that I finish it because she couldn't make it look nice with the knife. I told her she didn't have to frost with a knife and I started to frost with my fingers. I guess since I was doing that she decided it was acceptable (even though she hates to have messy hands) and followed my lead.

Bianca has really gotten into The Last Avatar. Eric has had the movies for a long time and talked me into finally watching them so she has been my motivation to continue because every day she asks if we can watch "MoMo". That is the avatar's pet, kind of a mix between a monkey and a lemur. Wyatt has also started to take interest in the show but couldn't get up onto the couch to watch so he would just stand against it. I decided to get him Bianca's old Dora chair from upstairs and he loves it. He got used to it real fast..but

not fast enough. Bianca was nice for about 2 minutes(see above pic) then decided she wanted her chair back, so I found Wyatt a bean bag. He didn't seem to mind too much.
In the meantime I'm wondering why my children prefer to sit on the floor when we have a cozy couch that fills up the entire family room.

We've been playing more in the toy room because I feel like my kids if I let them, would watch tv all day. So I've been setting times aside to do activities and turn the tv off and go to another room of the house. Wyatt is so happy to be able to play with Bianca's Hi Ho Cherry O game. I don't know why but he loves tiny things. If he puts one in his mouth I put the game away, and he knows that now so he doesn't. He can spend all day with these cherries. He will carry them around placing them in the cabinets, in little containers, wherever and then going to find them again. Of course, he sometimes can't remember where one is and I will be cooking the next day or whatever and find one in a pot or pan. It makes me laugh. I had a picture of his favorite toys, but I don't know where I put it. Anyway they all fit in the palm of my hand. One is a marble, the other a checker, the other a barret of Bianca's. He also really likes to take tops off and on of things. He will walk around most of the day with a color wonder marker taking the top off and on. Another funny thing, many times when I pick him up I've learned to check his hands because he will usually have some little knick knack in them.

And my little Bonk has started to play dress up. She got this Snow White dress on her 3rd birthday and didn't show any interest in it until about 3 months ago. Now she wears this one and some other dresses for church around the house over her clothes frequently. She also likes to dress up her bear and stuffed animals. I'm thinking of getting her her first build a bear for her 4th birthday.
She has also been favoring her tents for pretend play lately, which is a bummer for me because she always tries to stuff me into them with her. She gets in them and put blankets in there and toys and then says, "Mommy, this is the best hiding place ever!" And then yells for me to come find her, hmm I wonder where she could be??

And we've been doing a lot of talking on the phone, mostly to Daddy but also to others. Bianca likes to call her cousin Isaiah now. She calls him and I put it on speaker and he will say like one word, and then she will tell him something and then he will say another word. They don't have a conversation, they just kind of talk. My sister and I are in the background trying to help them finish their thoughts but I think we are learning to just let it be. It's pretty cute. She still doesn't talk a lot on the phone, she gets shy when people call for her, but I've noticed it's mostly with adults. When her friends or cousins call she is always willing to talk. So funny.

Phew, can you tell I'm bored here without Eric! This was a good chance for me to blog the updates with the kiddies. (: Daddy comes home tomorrow and is bringing Bianca her favorite animal in stuffed form of course: a flamingo.

Daddy time

We often put a diaper on Wyatt's head and have him say, "We the people...." calling him George Washington, I'll have to get a picture of it for the blog. So that is where Bianca got this idea, of course it's a little tighter on her head.

Eric is going to kill me for putting this picture up, he'll do anything for his little girl.

Eric got a tent because he is going to have to go camping with the young men in our ward thanks to his calling. Bianca wanted to go camping too after Daddy got home from his first trip so Eric set this up in our backyard so he could take her "camping". I can't believe that she stayed out there all night until 6 a.m. when her face got too cold Eric brought her in kicking and screaming.

They had a lot of fun reading books in the tent before bed. Eric gave Bianca his sleeping bag so she would be cozy, she put the hood on as soon as she got in it.

Another thing they have been doing together is playing video games. Eric doesn't play them as often as he used to but sometimes when he has a spare minute he will get a game of Spiderman or Star Wars in. Bianca's controller isn't plugged in but she thinks she's playing.

Happy Birthday Rico!!

I just found this picture of Eric, not sure when it was taken but I love it. He looks so handsome. Eric's birthday is the day after Wyatt's, July 22nd. I made sure to make him a cake this year seeing how that is his main complaint of his birthday last year (that he didn't get a cake). I was in the hospital birthing his child, sorry the cake was a few days late. Eric is my best friend. We have fun together and even when things aren't so fun, if we are having a rough day or whatever I think we would still prefer each other's company over any one elses. I'm grateful that we are together and for the family we've created.
This year we kept it low profile and just celebrated Wyatt's and Eric's birthday's together. Unfortunately they might run into that a lot, but I just wanted to give a shout out to the hub. I love you Rico, Happy Birthday.

Daddy

Last night we took a trip to Target to get some ink for the computer and just to get out of the house. On the way home Eric was telling Bianca how special she is to us and how much we love her. I love it that he does this. I think it's so important for kids to hear their parents tell them how much they love them. Eric is so good, better than me, at expressing love to our kids. He takes Bianca aside all the time and tells her, "We are so happy that you are in our family", and "I'm so proud of you", and "You are such a special girl."

Sometimes he does things I don't like, like giving Bianca caffeine before bed, but 98% of the time he is so good with her. He plays games with her and teaches her new things, I love it when he spends quality time with her, which he does a lot.

He's going to kill me for putting this picture up but I had to show how much he loves his girl, enough to let her put jewelry stickers all over his face! Bianca was laughing so hard. He's really an outstanding Daddy and we are so grateful for him. We love you Rico!

Snow Day

This morning when we looked outside we couldn't believe how much snow was in our backyard. I asked Eric to go stand in it to show how deep it was, little did I know he would run out in his pajamas! He is so crazy. He ran into the shower right afterwards.

He also decided to throw himself into the snow, the after effects seen here.

This is what we saw at our doorstep when we opened it. That chair is Bianca's little summer chair.
There was so much snow today and it wasn't letting up, our ward even canceled church today. I've never had that happen. Eric has to fly to Ohio today in a couple of hours so I hope he makes it to the airport ok.

Love of my life

My hubby will probably kill me for this but I just have to take a second to tell you how awesome he is. He is still working on his PHD, and especially working hard lately because he is planning on finishing it in December. In the meantime these are the nice things he has done for me lately:
  • watched the kids so I could plan my gospel doctrine lesson
  • gotten up at 6 am for the day with Wyatt and let me sleep in
  • waited around in the morning and took care of the kids in order for me to get my but in gear (shower ect) before he went to work
  • did the laundry, dishes, and changed the sheets on Bianca's and our bed this morning
  • went to two different Toys R Us's to find the slide that I want to get Bianca for Christmas
  • made chicken stir-fry for dinner
  • took the kids out of the house so I could nap after a rough night with Wyatt
I just want to say that Eric is the definition of a help mate. He is such a wonderful companion and my best friend. I would do anything for him, except he still has to talk me into having another baby, which he wants and I don't. (: I love you Rico!!!!! Thank you for all you do.

Daddy and his two babies

Eric and I are better adjusted now that Wyatt is coming up on his two month mark. We admit though that the second is not just a little more work, it's a lot more. Some people might feel differently but it was a big adjustment for our family. As you can see here Eric was holding Wyatt and Bianca got a little jealous. But we try to include her in everything we do with Wyatt. She has had a few bouts of pulling on him or hitting him, but overall she has been good to him. Helping him with his milk and pacifiers when he's crying. She likes to hold him to (with Mommy's help). We feel so blessed to have these two little ones.

Daddy got a Patent

This is Daddy and David, his good friend. They did a project together at BYU developing a Bluetooth enabled medical smart card called the Poket Doktor. As you can see from the poster they did this in 2001. In the newspaper recently they discovered that they had received a patent for some of this technology.

Patent #7,236,742 - System and method for wireless data transfer for a mobile unit

Way to go Daddy! He's such a stud.

Hall Family Update - April 2007

Here is the latest with Eric's side of the family. This is the most current picture I have of them, at our wedding 2003:

From left to right:
  • David and Margrit just bought a new home in Lehi, Utah where they hope to stay for a while. David is a consultant and Margrit still quilts and writes books.
  • Robyn is the proud mother of four children. Her and Terry just moved back to Michigan from Mexico. Terry has a new position with Chrysler Corporation.
  • Valerie lives in San Jose, and works at the lab in Livermore. Her and Derek just completely renovated thier whole house. Valerie is still a gourmet cook and enjoys entertaining.
