I'm thankful for nice people. Since we've moved to Ohio I think we've experienced a lot more common courtesy in the community. Neighbors are friendly, co-workers are respectful, and the general public is just helpful. This makes life so much easier and even enjoyable! Eric and I have talked about the loss of this many times. How society seems to have forgotten common courtesy. Today I lost my debit card at the mall. I realized it when I went to pay for something in a store and went into a panic. Wyatt was fussing, Bianca was tired and ready to go home. I had three big jackets hanging on the stroller handles, two big bags of things bought, and a drink in hand. I said it out loud, but not thinking about what I was saying... "I think I left my debit card in the ATM machine." The lady who was ringing me up told me to just leave everything with her (except the kids) and go to find it. I took the kids and ran to the atm machine, no luck. I went to the information desk and the lady looked to see if anyone had turned it in. Nobody had, but she took my name and number and reassured me that cards get sucked in after they sit there a while and that the guards check the machine every night. I went back to the store and the person who had my things asked me if I had any luck. I told her no and then she tried to reassure me and tell me that I can just cancel it and get another one. She then returned all my items, including my drink and wished me a good day and that everything would work out with the card. It's the little things like that that help.
Other little things I'm grateful for: When someone lets me over into their lane when I'm driving and need to get over. When I have a customer service rep that helps me solve a problem and is nice about it. When people offer to hold doors. When someone I don't know smiles at me or my kids. When others listen to what I'm saying and don't interrupt or jump to conclusions. Turns out common courtesy is not completely lost. And I'm grateful for that.
Wow...that's great your card was still there. What a scary situation.
ReplyDeleteme too:)
ReplyDeleteYay for Ohio!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great experience where it ended positively. It seems that I have read of so many interactions lately from other friends that don't turn out so nicely. What a chain reaction is started when we are kind and considerate to all.
