Temple and the wreath
Last weekend we went to the Louisville Kentucky temple. It's small like the Columbus one but closer. The drive was about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Even though it's small, it's still so beautiful to me.
A friend of mine was asking how we do this the other day so I thought I would post about it. We do take our kids, along with some other families from our ward, then we take turns attending the temple and watching the kids. I tried to show in this picture how close the chapel is to the temple. So we went and found a room to have the kids play in for about 4 hours. I practically brought the whole house, bean bags, movies, dvd players, toys, books, and of course lots of food. It does make for a long day, about 8 hours total, man did I take the Utah temples for granted! But it is well worth it, and it's an added blessing when the kids are happy and don't put up a fuss about the long day. They did great this time! Although it is a little bit of a sacrifice to go, I'm so grateful that we have a temple within a couple of hours away and that we have good friends who are able and want to attend with us and help with watching the kids.
Next up in the news, is the wreath. So this girl in our ward is very crafty, in a good way. (: She always comes up with these great ideas! She invited a bunch of us to her house to make wreaths. I love making things that can be used as home decor so of course I went. Now before you scroll down let me say that this is my first wreath project, so kind of a trial and error thing. Here is a picture of the kids and I working on the wreath the next morning.
I went to Michaels and bought a green foam wreath form. I wasn't sure what I wanted to put on it so I bought a couple bags of these tiny foam balls. I guess they are used to fill flower vases. Then I just glued the little balls onto the wreath with a glue gun. It took a while but I like working with tiny things like that.
I had glued some flowers and butterfly's onto it but thought it looked too old ladyish. So I took those off and just left the balls. And luckily, there are many different colored rooms in the downstairs of our house, in the dining room we have a lovely pastel blue, which goes well with the pastels in my wreath, so there is hangs and I have to say, I do love it. I love the texture, the colors and the kids gave it a big thumbs up. When Bianca first saw me working on it she said, "Mommy! It's beautiful!" That's all the praise I need!

That is a beautiful wreath. (I know I couldn't do that with my Brooke around...they look too much like Yo-go's fruit snacks and I'm sure I would be taking them out of her mouth over and over again...she's they type that has to test these things out-sometimes more than once!)
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah for you for going to the temple even when it's an all day event. I know everyone gets blessing for attending the temple but I believe the greater the sacrifices, the greater the blessings. (When we lived in Irvine, I LOVED the smaller Newport Beach Temple. We went to the San Diego Temple often just cause that is where we were sealed, but the smaller temples just have such a sweet, simplistic beauty about them.)
Cool wreath! I think you are now officially craftier than me.
ReplyDeleteHooray for finishing the wreath -- It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI love your temple-attendance arrangement. Very resourceful. And your wreath IS beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the wreath. What a pair of crafty hands you have! I know where Bianca gets her talent from! By the way, I miss spending time with you.
