Last night I slept fairly well. The only things that really woke me were the alarm every 4 hrs to take my pain meds and the need to take sips of water to keep my throat moist. And of course with more water comes the need to use the bathroom more. But the pain didn't keep me up and I wasn't uncomfortable. I've been afraid to lie on my side so I've been mostly just sleeping on my back with my head elevated.
I haven't looked in the back of my throat yet but I can tell that my uvula is super swollen. I read that is common after this procedure. So it feels like I have something stuck in my throat that I can't get out but I'm getting used to it.
I've been able to eat chicken noodle soup at a luke warm temperature and dipped some bread in it. I've eaten jello, applesauce, popsicles, and today I even cut up a hot dog into really small bites and ate that with a lot of water. Everything has kind of a metallic taste to it, doesn't taste quite right but it still satisfies my hunger even though it doesn't taste great.
The meds aren't making me too sick, just kind of groggy.I'm on liquid lortab. Only other symptoms are headache. So far so good. Just feels like a constant sore throat which I've grown accustomed to handling from the past. I will continue to document the remainder of the recovery in the upcoming days.
Also, I wondered if I would be able to talk after the procedure. I am able to but don't like to too much bc of the pain, still I was surprised that I could talk at all on the first day.
Hey Liz--I hope you're feeling okay! I enjoyed reading all the gorey details about your "cheesy tonsils". I guess it's the nurse in me. Anyway, can I do something to help out? Would you like some ice cream, a smoothie, or something?
