January is my least favorite month of the year. It's usually the coldest, it's long, and it never fails that somebody gets sick. I wonder if the body just knows that the holidays are over and it can give into whatever viruses it's been holding onto.First Wyatt got the flu. I heard him coughing in his crib in the middle of the night and went in to find him sitting in his mess.
I'll admit it, when Bianca got her first flu I freaked out. But after going through it a couple of times with her, fighting it, trying everything to make the duration a day or even an hour shorter
I gave in and let it run it's course. I hate it when my kids are sick but it's inevitable. Every kid has to go through it, and the only thing a parent can do is keep the child as comfortable as possible. Meaning keeping them clean, warm, medicined up with ibuprofen for aches and pains and give lots of fluids.Wyatt was sick for maybe 5 days, and then the second he got better Bianca got it. She said to me, "Mommy, my tummy feels funny." When she gave up playing to go lay on the couch in the fetal position I knew what I was in for. A few more up and down night, lots more laundry, and one
cranky girl (with good reason of course).

I'm not sure where they picked up the bug but I can say this, a few of us had it in November after we went to Chuck E Cheese. We went to Chuck E Cheese again the end of December and whaaa laaaa. More flu. But I'm sure if they didn't get it there they would have picked it up somewhere. We continue with the battle of phlegm at the moment.
At least the balloons we got there gave Wyatt some comfort.
We found something that he likes even more than balls, which we thought was impossible. He loves balloons. He says the word "baawoon". He would not let these ones go. He ate with them, carried them everywhere around the house, even took them in the bath. The only place they didn't go was into his crib, which he protested to LOUDLY.

On to other news besides sickness. Wyatt has a new face and it's not pretty. This is his scowl. He first gave this to a lovely waitress at a restaurant when she tried to talk baby talk to him. He was not taking any of it. Here he is wearing Bianca's hat, which he loves to wear, and when I went to take his picture he said, "NO" and proceeded to give me the very evil eye.
And to end the very eventful month of January, some new house rules. Can you tell what Bianca has been having problems with? It's not a glamorous list, but it works. The other day I went upstairs to move the laundry from washer to dryer which takes what.. 2 minutes at most...when I hear screaming from Wyatt. I ran downstairs and saw him lying face to couch, butt in the air, Bianca was lying on the floor. I asked her what happened and she said, "Nothing!" I picked Wyatt up and after more coaxing, Bianca told me that she had hit him in the back repeatedly with the remote control because he was in the way of the TV. OK first, if you have ever seen our TV you would know that it's huge and hard to block, second, I have told her over and over that no hitting is a rule in our house, to which she replied, "I forgot". Hence, the chart. I have to say, she looks at it all the time and understands it. And whenever we get visitors, she is eager to tell them what the house rules are. By the way, she didn't just get new house rules for this misdeed, she got a time out and her princess movies taken away for the week. And to add to the list of house rules Eric always says, #4 is, "If it cries, love it." Leave it to him to mock the list, but Bianca likes it, and knows that one by heart already.
that was a most hilarious post- that face wyatt makes now just cracks me up- he is so funny- it's funny to see their personalities grow and how they react to different emotions- i'm sorry bianca has had trouble with hitting- mostly for wyatt's sake- it was smart of you to make the list and it's good she knows it now- hopefully she will obey- as far as eric- if it cries- love it- hilariuos- I can picture him saying that- he is such a comedian- you guys are the best less than two months now and counting:)
ReplyDeleteI love the scowl. We've been battling sickness too. One of my un-favorites is when their nose is so plugged that they can't breath when they sleep. That means that I'm usually up helping them do so.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, but so true. I hate it when kids are sick. THose are great house rules.
ReplyDeleteHey, isn't Wyatt's scowl an Eric face?! J/K.
ReplyDeleteYour story of Bianca hitting Wyatt over the TV cracked me up! So typical kid.
Sorry your January has been slow, with sicknesses and all. Our November sucked, and we got a brief visit of a stomach bug in December, but so far our January has been healthy. Knock on wood.
