Memorial Day

Our first Memorial Day in Ohio. We went to a ward picnic in the afternoon. You can kind of see Eric in this picture on the far right in the blue shirt. We got to know a lot of new people in our area, everyone was really friendly, we got invited to a ton of events and birthday parties, ect. While we were there I noticed the kids and some adults playing a game I had never seen.

This is what the board looked like. On the bottom there are a bunch of bean bags. There are two boards like this. You set them apart throwing distance and try to get the bean bags into the hole. Apparently it's called cornholing. So we saw that at the picnic, then when we got home our neighbors were playing it in the back yard all night! I guess it's a popular game in Ohio, especially on holidays. We didn't play this time, maybe we'll give it a try next time.

We've been getting to know the area we live in now and getting to know the people around town. Everyone here is so polite and friendly. We were at Wendy's tonight and the service was SOOOOO slow, but Eric couldn't get mad at the lady because she was so apologetic and friendly. The customer service is really good too. We got some mistakes on our first phone bill and I was surprised to hear Eric not yelling at her, apparently she was very helpful and good at her job. Speaking of jobs, the other day Eric went to rent a truck to pick up a mattress that we bought. He told me the funniest thing, that the lady at the counter who was helping him was eating an apple, cutting the slices with a pocket knife and dipping it in a cup of beer. Nice! I didn't know you could drink on the job but she told him that "she owned the joint" so I guess she can do whatever she wants. Again, Eric couldn't be offended as she was friendly and polite, and probably a little buzzed......Welcome to Ohio! Ok I'm going to make some posts about the kids in a few days here, I promise, so keep your eyes peeled.

  1. Hi Liz,

Its funny that you mention the game cornhole because it is popular here also. I never saw this game until I moved out here. I have not played it yet either, but madison has and she enjoys it. I am so glad to hear that you have met lots of people. And it is true, on this side of the country, people are very friendly and the customer service is definatly better here. It was one of the first things I noticed when I moved here. Everyone is so nice. The pictures of your house are beautiful and I can not wait to see it. You guys sound happy to be there so far and I hope you continue to enjoy your new home. Cant wait to visit!! Love you guys. Jeni

  3. Your description of the lady with the apple and beer is great. Not quite Utah, huh? I'm so glad you've landed among such friendly people.
