What you are about to read is a true story. I almost couldn't believe it myself but it worked! Maybe I'm jumping the gun here but I am really excited. Those of you who know our little Bianca know that she does not eat much, and what she usually ends up eating is fast food or junk food. She also still drinks a lot of milk. So you can imagine how many tactics we have tried with her to get her to eat good food, to no avail. Meanwhile my sister's telling me about how her kid brings a can of corn for her to open and he eats half the can for a snack. Talk about rubbing it in. (: Anyways, I noticed a book on Amazon called Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. Yes, Jerry Seinfeld's wife. Then I saw her on Oprah talking about the book and how her recipes have pureed veggies and fruits in them. I couldn't believe that kids would go for that but it showed kids trying her food and they loved it. I immediately put the book on my Christmas wish list. Well I got the book, along with a steamer and a personal blender (special thanks to my sisters in law) and went to work. Today I started with something I knew I could get Bianca to eat. Chocolate chip cookies. The secret ingredient in these is chickpeas a.k.a garbanzo beans. Jessica doesn't puree them in her recipe but I decided to because Bianca is very picky about texture. When I opened the can of beans and drained it I thought there is no way these cookies will taste normal with these in them (they stunk). But remembering the kids on the Oprah show I pushed forward. Pretty easy and healthy recipe. I have to admit though, I didn't even try the dough, I was even nervous to taste them. But after I cooked them I hesitantly took a bite and WOW, they taste like good cookies, not a hint of beans. Bianca even ate a whole cookie, which she rarely does. OK so I know this is just a small first step but it is promising. There are a lot of good recipes in the book that I am excited to try. Thanks Jessica!Thursday, January 3, 2008

that's awesome Liz!
ReplyDeleteLOL I can't help but mention Isaiah's hilarious eating habits! I'm not trying to rub it in. :)
ReplyDeleteI heard about Jessica Seinfeild's book and it sounded interesting. I'm glad it's working! Maybe I'll check it out to add a little extra oomph to the baked goods! :)
Congratulations Liz and Bianca! Chickpeas and she doesn't even know it.
Keep me posted on how this is going. Sarah used to eat everything and especially loved veggies, but she is getting much pickier to my dismay. I have thought about trying this also.
ReplyDeleteI JUST saw this book on display at the library when I was there 20 minutes ago! Sounds like a great book. I'll have to check it out next time I'm there. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to have to try this book out. Sienna is the same way. She lives off milk and crackers. Thanks for the info
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me! I just bought the book and have started my puree's.
ReplyDeletePS-That pic of Bianca looks just like Matt!
